Our History

In the late seventies, polyurethane technology was still relatively new, and just beginning a period of tremendous growth. It was during this exciting time that Sunray, Inc. was founded.

During the eighties, developments in the field of urethanes produced wide new varieties of hardness, compounds, and problem solving abilities. The diversity and durability of this material made it an industry standard. As a small operation, Sunray was able to cater to the special needs and desires of its customers, creating custom products as well as standard wheels made new or recycled. Because each part was worked by hand, critical quality control took place every step of the way. Rather than merely producing a quality product, quality became the product.

As the call and need for polyurethane increased, Sunray became more diverse. In 1988, having outgrown the facilities in Charlotte, Sunray and staff relocated to Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, they steadily gained momentum for the next six years.

Struck by lightning the night of June 7th, 1994, Sunray's main production facility burned to the ground. Rather than being a setback, this was a blessing in disguise. For some time, consideration had been given to expansion. Due to the premature destruction of the building, plans were laid to construct a larger building to accommodate projected growth.

Today, Sunray enjoys considerable success in the polyurethane industry. Housed in a modern production facility, Sunray maintains its commitment to old-fashioned quality. Many steps of the manufacturing process are still carried out by hand. This painstaking attention to detail assures quality in every part that is shipped. Sunray's staff prides themselves on being part of a team with a world-wide reputation for value, quality, and timely delivery.

Sunray is well-known for creating/producing top-quality polyurethane products and urethane products. Some examples are: polyurethane wheels, urethane wheels, polyurethane parts, and urethane parts. There are hundreds of products available, and Sunray can produce an unlimited variety of custom polyurethane/urethane products.
